The portrait created by Remigio Butera dates back to 1924 and opens the catalogue which is followed by works by historical authors such as: Mario Rossello, of whom a work entitled Dietro la città from 1969 is proposed (estimate 800/1,000€) exhibited in 1973 in the Hall of the Caryatids of the Royal Palace in Milan, and Mino Maccari, of which there is a work from 1980-84 entitled Faces exhibited at the Aragonese Castle of Baia in Bacoli in 1985 (estimate 800/1,000€). But also: Carlo Levi, Remo Brindisi, Emilio Greco, Bruno Cassinari, Pasquarosa Marcelli and many others.
Among the most interesting lots: Cascata, a large oil on canvas measuring 200x150 cm from 2007 by Giovanni Frangi (estimated 4,000/6,000€), an artist fresh from a major exhibition at Palazzo Citterio in Milan where he exhibited his monumental works Nobu at Elba. But also the large acrylic on canvas (160x140 cm) by Paolo Troilo (estimated 3,000/4,000€), another internationally renowned contemporary Italian artist, known for painting using only his fingers and whose works with hyper-realist traits have been exhibited in galleries and museums in Italy and around the world, including in 2011 at the 54th Venice Biennale. And then again the watercolor and pencil on paper applied to canvas from the 1970s by one of the protagonists of the so-called School of Piazza del Popolo: Franco Angeli (estimate 1,400/1,800€) and the oil on panel by Paul Mansouroff (estimate 1,500/2,000€), exhibited at the Royal Palace of Caserta in 1983.
Two works are exhibited in the exhibition Matter and Gesture, torment and ecstasy of Italian Informal Art, curated by Boris Brollo and Gerardo Giulio De Simone held at the MACA - Silvio Vigliaturo Civic Museum of Contemporary Art in 2008 (estimate 3,500/4,000€): Gestuality, vinyl painting on cardboard from 1979 by Toti Scialoja (estimate 2,800/3,200€), a key figure of the material and gestural abstraction of the post-war period, and the large oil on canvas from 1977 by Vasco Bendini (estimate 3,500/4,000€), an exponent of an artistic path that has often seen him as a forerunner of techniques and languages.
