Lot and his daughters

oil on canvas
cm 57x77
Provenance: Piacenza, private collection

The painting depicts Lot and his daughters after their escape from the burning city, protagonists of the story told in Genesis (19:30-38), closely intertwined with the destruction of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.
The use of light and color are quite distinctive elements of 18th-century Venetian painting: from a formal and chromatic perspective, therefore, the canvas can be attributed to a Venetian artist active around the mid-18th century, who was able to engage with the great models of previous centuries.
