Very little documentary information exists about Lorenzo Mosca, but his activity is documented starting in 1760, and his mentor can be considered Matteo Bottiglieri. He also oversaw the restoration and direction of the artistic nativity scene for Duke Carlo Calร and is still active in the duke's archives in 1784.
Gennaro Borrelli writes that Mosca "sought to reproduce the various types of our villages, especially Procida, Torre del Greco, Terra di Lavoro, and the countryside of Molise, Abruzzo, and Calabria, certainly conducting an investigation of life-like models, a fact that allowed him to capture the rapturous expressions he instilled in his shepherds, struck by the light of the angel and the divine cradle."
In the King's Nativity Scene, owned by the Bank of Naples and occasionally displayed in the chapel of the Royal Palace of Naples, there are many figurines by Lorenzo Mosca.
