Paolo Porpora (Napoli, 1617 - Roma, 1673)

Fruit and vegetable arrangement on a rocky step

oil on canvas
cm 66,5x93

The work is accompanied by a critical note compiled in 2017 by Dr. Davide Dotti, who, while confirming the attribution to the Neapolitan painter, suggests dating it to the period when he had moved to Rome, between the sixth and seventh decades of the 17th century. A series of works were executed during those years that share many similarities with the painting presented here in terms of execution, color scheme, and choice of repertoire.
The scholar offers numerous stylistic comparisons: among them the spectacular Composition with Flowers, Fruit, Birds, and a Fountain in a Landscape in the Di Capua Collection in Turin; a canvas from a private collection in Milan; and the Bouquet of Flowers with a Crystal Cup from the Capodimonte Museum in Naples.
