For this painting, the attribution has been put forward to the Venetian painter Antonio Marini (Venice 1668 - 1725), who during his stay in Florence at the Medici court was strongly influenced by the stylistic characteristics of Salvator Rosa's landscapes. These influences are evident in the landscape part of the painting which, however, is also influenced by the traditional chromatic choices of Pieter Mulier known as Tempesta
